It is indeed a graet loss. He was surely one of the most brilliant Islamic scholars of the world. He presided two of my lectures at Aligarh Muslim University, one in Department of Theology and the orher in Department of Economics. I have not met any other person who had a better vision and grasp on Islamic economics than he. When I was delivering my lecture on "The Devil of Economic Fundamentalism", I remember he commented something which only a person of great integrity and selfless devaotion could say. He said that "What we have been preaching asIslamic Economics for last thirty years is nothing more than mere introduction of Interest free economics to the otherwise Western Model of Economics. What Dr Jamil has done is an open challenge to Western Economics and will help in much better way in the progress of Islamic Economics." Really great words for a man almost half hisage at that time, and much less known than him. Speaking high of younger people is a quality not easily seen anywhere.
May Allah give him a high rank in Paradise and give paience to his family members, friends and admirers!
Dr Javed Jamil
