A gladdening news from Assam
It was momentous occasion for those who assembled at Manisha Marriage Hall, Guwahati on 30th May 2010. They were there to get married and start a new life. They hailed from various villages of Assam and they had assembled there at the aegis of Human Welfare Foundation and Assam Falah Society. 95 brides and bridegrooms started their marital life on the occasion. All praise to Allah.
The presence of Dr. Nazrul Islam, Hon'ble Minister, Minority Affairs and Civil Supply, Mr. Akon Bora, MLA and former president DGP, Mr Abdul Khaliq MLA, Prof. K. A. Siddique Hassan, General Secretary, Human Welfare Foundation, New Delhi added variety and dignity to the solemn occasion. Besides M. K. Farooque, P. K. Abdul Latheef and K. M. Najeeb from various places of Kerala were there.
Prof. Atowur Rahman of Gawhati University and Diwan Abdul Qadir too graced the occasion. Moulana Baharuddin Ahmed Qasimi delivered the Nikah Qutba and solemnised the marriages of 95 couples.
One hopes that it was not the first event of its kind and hopes that the good work started by the Human Welfare Foundation and Assam Falah Society get replicated by others all over the state. This was pointed out by one of the dignitaries in the function. Dr Nazrul Islam expressed his hope that mass marriage ceremonies like this would go a long way in eradicating un-Islamic and anti-Islamic practises like dowry from the society and curb unnecessary expenditures.
Hats off to HWF people and Prof. Siddique Hasan Sahib. Mass marriages are the need of the hour and this kind of noble tasks should be carried out in other states too!
